Description
Custom Automotive Rearview Mirror Mold Manufacturer
Custom Rearview Mirror Mold Manufacturing
Mingyu Mold develops injection molds for automotive exterior mirror components, including mirror housings, bases, bezels, brackets and turn-signal housings. This page is the commercial RFQ page for buyers who need a project-specific rearview mirror mold, from DFM review and tool design through manufacturing, trial and shipment.
Planning a rearview mirror tooling project? Send the 3D part file, resin, annual volume, surface requirement and target injection machine. We will review the part and reply with a tooling proposal.
Rearview Mirror Components We Can Review
- Outer housing and cover: visible exterior parts where gloss, texture and parting-line control matter.
- Mirror base and mounting parts: structural components requiring stable datum, insert and assembly interfaces.
- Bezel and mirror ring: thin visible geometry with tight fit and appearance requirements.
- Internal bracket: functional parts with ribs, bosses, clips and moving interfaces.
- Turn-signal housing or lens-related carrier: parts requiring dimensional consistency and controlled sealing or assembly surfaces.
Materials and Surface Requirements
Material selection is confirmed from the approved part specification. Typical automotive mirror projects may involve PP, ABS, PC/ABS or glass-fiber-reinforced PA. Shrinkage, fiber orientation, UV/weather requirements, paint or plating preparation, texture and gloss level must be considered before steel cutting.
| Review item | Engineering consideration |
|---|---|
| Visible surface | Class-A appearance, texture direction, gloss, weld-line and gate-mark control |
| Assembly | Datum strategy, clips, screw bosses, sealing surfaces and mating-part clearance |
| Resin | Shrinkage, flow length, fiber orientation, heat and weather resistance |
| Tool movement | Sliders, lifters, inserts and release direction for undercuts |
| Cooling | Balanced temperature around ribs, bosses, thick transitions and visible faces |
Appearance, Assembly and Dimensional Challenges
Exterior mirror housings combine visible surfaces with clips, ribs, bosses and mounting datums. The mold must therefore balance appearance and function. Gate position and filling sequence influence weld lines and hesitation marks; cooling layout influences warpage and gap consistency; parting-line placement affects both appearance and trimming. Critical assembly dimensions should be defined on the drawing before DFM approval.
Slider, Lifter, Gate and Cooling Design
Sliders or lifters are selected only where the undercut and release direction require them. The design review evaluates stroke, wear surfaces, locking, service access and sensor requirements. Gate type and location are chosen from resin, part geometry and appearance criteria. Cooling circuits are arranged around visible faces, bosses and thick sections to reduce cycle imbalance and deformation. Moldflow analysis can be included when the project scope requires filling, packing, weld-line or warpage evaluation.

DFM, Tool Design and Design Review
- Review the 3D data, drawing, resin, annual volume and injection-machine limits.
- Identify draft, wall-thickness transitions, undercuts, appearance zones and critical assembly dimensions.
- Propose parting line, gate, ejection, slider/lifter and cooling concepts.
- Review the DFM and mold layout with the customer before detailed design and steel cutting.
- Release manufacturing drawings and a controlled action list after approval.
Manufacturing, Mold Trial and Inspection
Machining, fitting, polishing or texture preparation and assembly follow the approved design. Trial feedback is used to evaluate filling, flash, sink, deformation, appearance and assembly fit. Samples, basic dimensional results, trial videos or other inspection documents can be supplied according to the agreed project scope. Final acceptance criteria must be confirmed in the purchase specification.

FAQ
Can one supplier review the housing, base, bezel and bracket molds together?
Yes. Reviewing the component set together helps align datums, assembly gaps, material shrinkage and acceptance criteria, although each mold is quoted from its own part data.
Which resin is best for an exterior mirror housing?
The choice depends on impact, weather, heat, paint or plating and cost requirements. PP, ABS and PC/ABS are common candidates; the customer-approved material specification controls the mold design.
How are visible weld lines and gate marks managed?
Gate location, filling sequence, venting, wall transitions and process window are reviewed together. Moldflow analysis may be used when the appearance risk justifies it.
Can you provide dimensional reports?
Dimensional inspection can be arranged against an agreed drawing and sampling plan. The exact report format and measurement scope should be confirmed before order.
Do you support texture or polishing requirements?
Yes, when the texture, gloss, polishing level and protected appearance zones are defined in the project specification.
